Aloha United Way Kicks Off Random Acts of Aloha

Jun. 16, 2015

Aloha United Way kicked off a new initiative called Random Acts of Aloha, which mobilizes the caring power of our local community to demonstrate the impact of giving back and encourage individuals and businesses to participate in AUW’s annual campaign, which kicks off this August.  AUW received lei as a donation from local company Aloha Island Lei, which were distributed this afternoon by volunteers from AUW’s Society of Young Leaders to over 100 elderly individuals at Moiliili Community Center and Palolo Chinese Home as a surprise and as part of Random Acts of Aloha. At Moiliili Community Center, the surprise gifts of lei were especially timely as their oldest participant, named Shizuko, had just celebrated her 102nd birthday a few days prior. At Palolo Chinese Home, day care, nursing, and care home participants were thrilled and honored to receive the beautiful lei. Both senior groups welcomed the lei with hugs, cheers and in some cases, even happy tears.
