Every day about 70-plus homeless people visit a curbside bathroom in Chinatown, a place for them to receive a hot shower and to relieve themselves privately.
A handful of SYL members learned today that these are homeless that live on the street--some are individuals, some are families with children and others are working people who simply can't make ends meet to have a roof over their head.
Safe Haven is the non profit that oversees this operation. Because of the generosity of Emi Hart, Yelp and its supporters, we were able to use monies raised from their Monster Mash event back in October to purchase over 2,000 bars of soap, 2,889 toothbrushes, 2,880 tubes of toothpaste, 300 shaving razors, 5 oversized gallons of shampoo and 420 bath towels.
The SYL members who joined us included Carson from Nordic PCL Construction, Ephraim of Hawaii Business Magazine, Lisa and Justin from InSynergy Engineering.
We also were able to gift 12 airbeds to Family Promise who came here this morning to pick their items up.
It's a humbling and truly rewarding experience to be able to donate to those in need, thanks to the warm hearts and generosity of others.
